Hong Kong has a funny way to work out the PLACE div. The final div depends on all the 3 placed horses ( and the money they carry).
Hence the HKJC shows you two odds, namely, the min and max. Nobody knows in advance how much the div will pay until the race is finished running.
In other countries, PLACE betting are much fairer. They would evenly chop the total PLACE pool into three parts. Each place getter will be share its slice of pool money, hence an expected div can always be shown before the race. In HK, don't bet roughies for a PLACE, most of its values would go to the better faniced horses due to the above calculation method. Anyway, place -betting will lead you to go broke, no matter where you bet.
I did a lot of place betting in the past but I go for WIN only nowadays.
